NAS (Network Attached Storage) Setup
Need to access your files from every room in the house? Or share data with your team? A NAS drive is your own private, ultra-fast cloud server.
Centralized Storage for Home & Business
For photographers, videographers, and small businesses, a single hard drive is not enough. You need Network Attached Storage (NAS). This is a dedicated box containing multiple hard drives that plugs into your router, making your files accessible to every device on your network (and over the internet).
Why You Need a NAS
- Collaboration: Two people can edit files in the same folder at the same time.
- Media Streaming: Stream 4K movies to your TV, iPad, and PC simultaneously using Plex.
- Redundancy (RAID): If one hard drive fails, you lose NOTHING. The NAS uses "RAID" technology to write data across multiple disks. You simply swap out the broken drive, and it rebuilds itself.
Our Installation Service
Setting up a NAS (Synology or QNAP) involves complex networking. We handle:
- Disk Selection: We advise on "NAS-grade" hard drives (IronWolf/Red) that are designed to run 24/7 without failure.
- RAID Configuration: We set up RAID 1 (Mirroring), RAID 5 (Speed + Safety), or RAID 10 depending on your needs.
- User Permissions: We create accounts for your staff or family, ensuring the kids can't delete your tax returns, but can access the Disney movies.
- Remote Access: We configure secure QuickConnect or VPN access so you can view your files from a hotel room in Tokyo just as easily as in Leeds.
Automated PC Backup Target
We configure every computer in your house to wirelessly back up to the NAS every hour. Combined with Apple Time Machine or Windows File History, this gives you a completely automated safety net for the whole family.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which brand is best?
We highly recommend Synology for their user-friendly software (DSM). It is as easy to use as an iPhone but powerful enough for enterprise.
Is it noisy?
Modern NAS units are very quiet, but mechanical hard drives do make a 'clicking' sound when accessing data. We recommend placing the unit near your router, possibly in a hallway or cupboard, rather than on your desk.
