The Butterfly Effect
Between 2016 and 2019, Apple used the 'Butterfly' mechanism. It is notorious for failing if even a speck of dust gets under the key. This causes keys to repeat (e.g., 'Apppple') or not register at all.
The Fix: On these models, the keyboard is riveted into the metal chassis. It is not just screwed in. We have to strip the entire laptop, rip out the old keyboard (breaking 50+ rivets), and screw in a new one with tiny proprietary screws.
It is a big job, but the result is a laptop that feels brand new.

1. Full Keyboard Swap
We replace the entire grid of keys. This is the only permanent solution for liquid damage or widespread key failure.
2. Single Keycap Repair
Missing a 'Spacebar' or 'Command' key? If the mechanism underneath is intact, we can just clip on a new keycap for a few pounds.
3. Trackpad Repair
If the mouse cursor is jumping around or the click is not registering, it's often the Trackpad cable or the unit itself. We stock Glass Trackpads for all models.
Liquid & Keyboards
Keyboards are the first line of defense against spills. They often catch the coffee before it hits the motherboard.
However, sugary drinks dry into a sticky syrup that makes the keys crunchy. You cannot clean this from the outside. The only fix is replacement.
- Backlight Films: We also replace the backlight layer if liquid has stained it, ensuring even lighting.
- Cleaning: We clean out all the crumbs and dust from inside the chassis while we are there.

- Magic / Scissor (2012-15 & 2020+): Deeper travel, more reliable.

My keys are sticky. Can you clean them?
We can try, but usually sticky keys means liquid residue inside the hinge mechanism. Replacement is cheaper and more effective than spending 3 hours trying to clean 70 individual keys.
Do you have foreign layouts?
We stock UK QWERTY. We can order US, French, or German layouts upon request (takes 2-3 days).
