Most iMacs made between 2012 and 2019 came with a mechanical Hard Drive (HDD) or a "Fusion Drive". These are terribly slow by modern standards. If your iMac takes 2-3 minutes to turn on and bounce icons forever, it's not broken—it just has an old drive.

Broken iMac Screens
