Complete Keyboard Replacement
When multiple keys fail, or your laptop starts typing ghostly random letters on its own, it's time for a fresh start. We replace worn-out, liquid-damaged, or faulty keyboards with high-quality new units, restoring your laptop's look and feel.
The Complexity of Modern Keyboards
Ten years ago, replacing a laptop keyboard was easy. You popped two clips, unscrewed two screws, and swapped it out. Today, it's different.
To make laptops thinner, manufacturers like HP, Lenovo, and Asus now plastic-weld the keyboard into the palmrest (the casing around the trackpad). To replace it, you often have to remove the motherboard, hard drive, battery, and fan—strip the laptop entirely naked.
This is a difficult job for DIYers, but daily bread for our technicians at Leeds Computer & Laptop Repairs. We have the specific soldering tools to melt the plastic rivets, remove the old keyboard, and securely weld a new one in place, ensuring it feels solid and doesn't bounce when you type.
Brands We Service Daily
HP (Pavilion, Envy, Spectre, Stream)
HP laptops are notorious for having riveted keyboards. We stock the silver, blue, gold, and white variants common in the Pavilion and Envy ranges. We can often fit backlit versions even if your original wasn't.
Dell (Inspiron, Latitude, XPS)
Business-class Dell Latitudes often still have easy-swap keyboards (5-minute job!). Consumer Inspirons usually require a full strip-down. We cover both, ensuring correct UK layouts with the proper "£" symbol.
Lenovo (ThinkPad, IdeaPad, Yoga)
ThinkPad keyboards are legendary for their quality. We only use Genuine Lenovo parts to maintain that tactile feedback. For Yoga 2-in-1s, we handle the complex ribbon cables delicateely.
Why A Full Replacement?
Sometimes, trying to fix a single key isn't enough.
- Reliability: If one key has failed due to wear, the others aren't far behind. A new unit gives you 100+ fresh keys.
- Ghost Touching: If your laptop types "zzzzzzz" on its own, the internal circuit matrix is damaged. Only a replacement fixes this.
- Hygiene: Keyboards trap dust, skin, and crumbs. A new keyboard is the cleanest, most hygienic upgrade you can give your laptop.

Replacement FAQs
Common questions about new keyboards.
Can I switch from a US to a UK layout?
Usually, yes! However, the "Enter" key shape is different (horizontal on US, L-shaped on UK). This means you might need a new palmrest casing as well, which is more expensive. Ask us for a quote.
How much does it cost?
For standard clip-in keyboards, it's around £40-£50 fitted. For modern internal (riveted) keyboards that require a full rebuild, it ranges from £60-£90 depending on the part cost. High-end gaming keyboards (RGB) can be more.
Do you offer foreign language keyboards?
Yes. We have many international students in Leeds. We can source French (AZERTY), German (QWERTZ), Spanish, Polish, and other layouts from our suppliers. Shipping takes a few extra days.
