Time & Date Wrong?
Does your laptop think it's 1980 every time you turn it on? This causes internet connection errors and software bugs. The culprit is a tiny £5 battery inside your machine.
What is a CMOS Battery?
It's a coin-sized watch battery (usually CR2032) soldered or plugged into your motherboard. It keeps the internal clock running even when the laptop is dead.
When it dies, your computer forgets its hardware configuration. This can cause boot failures (e.g. "No Boot Device Found") or prevent you from browsing the web because SSL certificates require the correct date. We disassemble your laptop to replace it.
Symptoms
Wrong Date
You have to manually update the time every time you restart windows.
WiFi Website Errors
Google issues "Your connection is not private" warnings because your clock is in the past.
BIOS Reset
The computer beeps on startup and asks you to press F1 or F2 to continue.
